Founded in Germany in 1820, Stabila have been producing innovative precision tools for nearly 200 years. The company’s first spirit levels arrived in 1880 and were made from metal and either beech, oak or teak.

Stabila acquired the patent for using acrylic glass vials and was the first German manufacturer to manufacture levels using light metal alloys instead of wood. In 1979 Stabila devised a system for casting the spirit vial directly into the body of the level, eliminating the need for mounting screws that were previously needed. This patented system uses a non-shrinking synthetic resin which ensures the long-term accuracy of the vials, and is still unrivalled today as the mounting system of choice.
A Quest For Innovation
Stabila continually strives for innovation to ensure their products meet the needs of tradesmen and DIYer alike. All the levels feature shock resistant end caps to protect the surface being measured. Some go one step further than this by having removable end caps to allow the level to be used right into corners, and others have a patented anti-slip stopper that allow the level to be held in position with just one hand; especially useful for marking out. Stabila levels can also be used for overhead measurements as the horizontal vial can be read from upside down.
